In this module, you check and analyze the share your site and the sites of your closest competitors have in the total organic traffic for selected keywords. For traffic calculation, the tool considers the top 20 positions for each keyword in Google Desktop search engines.
With its help, you can quickly detect the competitors that have better traffic forecasts for the selected keywords in the particular search engines. Analyzing the URLs and keywords for which they get in top positions for each search engine, you may come up with new ideas for improving your site’s share.
The tool is available in Pro and higher pricing plans.
Main features and options
As this is a project-based tool, it works with the keywords and search engines that were previously added to a particular project. Share of Voice shows data for all keywords and search engines in the project. A quick summary of the Share of Voice (SoV) data for your site is available in the form of a widget.
Information with detailed parameters is presented in the table below the widget. It includes your competitors in the SERPs and shows details about their performance. The domain you entered upon project creation is highlighted for visual clarity. Although this table contains just the top 20 domains by their share of traffic expected from the select set of keywords, you can also see how many competitors did not make it in the top 20 by traffic share.
- URLs in Top 20 – shows which URLs of the domain are found in the top 20 search results for the selected set of keywords. Click the expand button to see the corresponding keywords, share of voice, and traffic forecast details for each URL in the top.
- Keywords in Top 20 – shows for which keywords a particular domain managed to get into the top 20 search results. Click the expand button to see more keyword information, such as the search engine in which the domain got into the Top 20 for the particular keyword, site position for that keyword, search volume, CPC, and competition for that keyword.
- Share of Voice – shows the current share of organic traffic each domain has in all the traffic from the selected set of keywords.
- Traffic forecast – shows the absolute amount of expected traffic from the selected set of keywords.
- Other competitors – shows the total number of competitors that are below the top 20 domains by their share of traffic that they get from the selected set of keywords.
You can ignore any competitor in the table or add it to your project for further analysis. To do that, click the three-dot button near the competitor upon mouse hover, then click “Ignore” (or you can select a competitor and click the “Ignore” button above the table).
Ignored competitors are excluded from the share of voice calculation. Note that after you ignore a competitor, SoV recalculation will happen only at the next scheduled check or a manual recheck of rankings. The competitors you are already tracking in the project are marked as “Added.”
All ignored competitors will be available in a separate table below the main one. You can unignore them individually or by selecting them all and clicking the “Unignore” button.
The data gathered by the tool (including the list of keywords and corresponding URLs) can be exported in an Excel file (up to 10k rows) or CSV. You can export either the entire table or a particular competitor's data (their URLs and keywords in the top 20).
Settings
The main settings for this module are available at the top of the page and include a search engine selector, calendar, keyword, and tags selector.
By default, we are showing Share of Voice calculated for all search engines added to your project. If you want to see how your site performs in particular regional settings, you can select just one search engine from the list.
The calendar for calculating the Share of Voice allows you to pick two dates for comparing data. The information in the table is presented for a later date. The earlier date serves as a reference point for comparison, and the table shows the data variation that has occurred between the two selected dates. By default, the tool compares today’s and yesterday's stats.
Note: The data is stored for the past 90 days. Updates are saved for each day for the last 30 days, while for the past 60 days before the last 30, we update the data only once per week.
Share of Voice is calculated by default for all keywords in the project. If you need to see your SoV only for particular keywords, you can do that with the keyword selector. It allows you to add entire keyword groups or single out individual keywords.
The tags selector for this module operates with tags assigned to keywords in the Rankings tool. Therefore, you have the flexibility to filter out any keywords with or without tags in general or those with specific tags. You may select options for both filters at the same time, as they can work together. As a result, you will get a list of keywords that satisfy both filters. If no keywords satisfy both of them simultaneously, you will get a table with no data.
